Interview:
Hi Lacy! Happy New Year and thanks for joining me today!
Thanks for having me!
Q: Your website says that you write YA books with your sister, how does that work out? Is there a lot of arguing?
A: We wrote the first book together, and then her health prevented her from continuing with the series, so I’ve written the other books on my own. Believe it or not, there wasn’t any arguing. She initially came up with the characters and I basically fleshed out her first draft. Then I fell in love with the characters and story world and knew I had to carry on the series.
Q: Martial arts plays a key role in Rival, which one of you would win in a fight?
A: It would probably be a tie. My sister and I are about the same height and not too far off in weight—and to be honest, our brother always used to beat us up wrestling as kids!!
Q: You have written 2.5 books with your sister under the name Lacy Yager, and I think 8 books under your actual name, Lacy Williams. Why do you use a pen name?
A: I was originally published in inspirational romance (see next question for more on that!), and didn’t want readers to get confused. The Unholy Alliance series is much different than my other books, so I chose to use a pen name.
Q: Your website says you write inspirational romance under Lacy Williams. What exactly is inspirational romance?
A: Inspy romance is romance with Christian elements. My stories are about cowboys and the women that tame them (they are historical).
Q: I really liked Rival, but I’m disappointed that it wasn’t a full length novel. Is there a reason that you published it as a novella?
A: When my sister and I initially planned to launch the series, the idea for Brett and Emily came to me, and we planned to do it as a promotional book to interest readers in the series. I didn’t have a specific wordcount in mind when I wrote it, but I’m happy with the length. Readers will get a chance to see Brett and Emily again in future books, don’t worry!
Q: Out of all the books you’ve written, which are your favorite characters? Why?
A: Probably the cowboy Maxwell from RETURN OF THE COWBOY DOCTOR (December 2013). He is a shy guy, a little damaged, until he finds the right woman for him.
Showcase question
Q: Batman has been wrongly imprisoned and you are his lawyer…
A: I would do my best to get him bail so that he could get out and start finding the real culprit! And depending on which Batman he was (Christian Bale…) I might have to figure out a way to be in on the action to help!!!
Q: Do you have any teasers from either the first book in the unholy alliance series, or a soon to be released book that you wouldn’t mind sharing?
A: Here’s an excerpt from Unholy Alliance, chapter 27:
Someone knocks on the door. It opens and Shane peeks inside. “I heard voices.”
His eyes capture me. I’m frozen, mesmerized, I can’t move. I wait to see disgust cross his features, but he just keeps looking at me with his steady blue gaze.
“You should really get that checked, you know.” Hannah’s words break the connection between us; Shane looks over at her.
“What?” he asks.
“Voices. Hearing them. It can be a sign of schizophrenia.”
Neither of us responds. I’m not sure what to say. I have no idea why he stays silent.
“Oohkay. Sense of humors are turned off,” Hannah murmurs, getting out of the bed. “I’m just going to go…”
She grabs her shoes from beside the night stand. “And let you guys talk…”
She looks back at me. “If you want to talk…”
And then she’s gone. Shane steps into the room, closes the door and leans back on it.
“Don’t scare me like that again,” he says softly.
“Sorry,” I mutter, looking down at the bedspread in front of me. “To be fair, nothing like that has ever happened to me before. I would never knowingly hurt—”
“That’s not what I meant,” he interrupts me.
“What?”
He moves further into the room and I swallow.
“You almost died.”
Oh.
Wait. What?
I raise my eyebrows. “Why would you care? Isn’t it your job to kill vampires?”
“I would care if something happened to you.”
Thanks again Lacy, it was great to have you by the blog. Have an awesome day!
